Cinven is a global private equity firm that acquires Europe and United States–based corporations and emerging market firms.

Founded in 1977, Cinven originally stood for Coal Investment Nominees for Venture Capital, with its funding base initially coming from three UK pension funds: British Coal, the Railway Industry, and Barclays Bank. The firm operates across nine international offices and focuses on acquiring corporations in Europe and the United States, as well as emerging market firms that align with its core business strategies.

Cinven targets investments in six key sectors: Business Services; Technology, Media and Telecommunications; Financial Services; Industrials; Healthcare; and Consumer. The firm typically necessitates a minimum equity investment of €100 million or more. In early 2024, the firm successfully raised $14.5 billion for its eighth private equity fund.

Throughout its history, Cinven has been involved in significant international acquisitions and disposals. Notable activity includes the acquisition of Spire Healthcare, the casual dining leader Gondola Holdings, and the medical diagnostics operator Labco. In 2021, the firm faced a significant fine from the UK Competition and Markets Authority regarding its involvement in a generic drug price-fixing scandal.
