Charlesbank Capital Partners was founded in 1998 by a team that originally managed the private equity portfolio for the Harvard University endowment as the Harvard Private Capital Group. After transitioning to an independent firm, it has focused on middle-market investments across various sectors, including business services, healthcare, and technology.

The firm operates three primary investment strategies: flagship middle-market private equity, lower middle-market technology private equity, and middle-market opportunistic credit. Over time, it has expanded its reach by establishing a dedicated credit strategy in 2016 and a technology opportunities strategy in 2019.
