Ardian

Ardian was founded in 1996 by Dominique Senequier as AXA Private Equity, the investment arm of the French insurance giant AXA. The firm began with $100 million in assets and ten clients but quickly expanded its global footprint, opening offices in London, New York, and Frankfurt within its first five years. In 2013, the firm completed a management-led spin-off from AXA, achieving independent status and rebranding as Ardian. Since then, the firm has grown into one of the world's largest private equity houses, with a significant majority of the company owned by its employees.

The firm operates across five core pillars: Funds of Funds, Direct Funds, Infrastructure, Private Debt, and Real Estate. It is particularly noted for its strength in the secondary market, having acquired significant portfolios from major institutions like Bank of America and Natixis. Ardian is also a major player in infrastructure, with substantial investments in renewable energy, transport, and utilities, including high-profile stakes in Heathrow Airport and the Irish utility Energia.

Headquartered in Paris, Ardian maintains a global presence with sixteen offices across Europe, North and South America, Asia, and the Middle East. The firm serves over 800 institutional investors and manages a direct portfolio of more than 150 companies, while its fund of funds segment holds stakes in over 1,500 funds. The firm is consistently ranked among the top global private equity firms by capital raised.
