Ardian is a leading French private equity investment firm and one of the largest European-headquartered private equity funds.

Ardian was founded in 1996 by Dominique Senequier as AXA Private Equity, the investment arm of the French insurance giant AXA. The firm began with ten clients and 100 million euros in assets, focusing initially on direct investments and launching its fund of funds strategy in 1999. Over the following decades, the firm expanded globally, opening offices in major financial hubs including London, New York, Frankfurt, and Singapore. In 2013, the firm completed a management buyout to become an independent entity and was renamed Ardian.

The firm operates across five primary business segments: funds of funds, direct funds, infrastructure, private debt, and real estate. Ardian is known for its significant presence in the secondary market and its large-scale infrastructure investments. A notable aspect of its corporate culture is a commitment to profit-sharing, with the firm often distributing a percentage of capital gains to the employees of its portfolio companies. Today, the majority of the firm is owned by its employees, and it manages a diverse portfolio of over 150 companies for hundreds of institutional and private investors.
