Founded in 1984 as a spin-out from TA Associates by Peter Brooke, Advent International has grown into one of the world's largest private equity firms. The firm raised its first institutional fund in 1987 and expanded rapidly into Europe and Latin America during the 1990s. Since its inception, the firm has completed more than 375 transactions in 42 countries and invested over $56 billion in private equity capital.

The firm focuses on several core sectors and operates out of 14 offices in 11 countries. It is known for its flagship Global Private Equity (GPE) fund series, with GPE X raising $25 billion in 2022.
