Founded in 1981, CVC Capital Partners originated as Citicorp Venture Capital before senior investment professionals negotiated a spinoff from Citibank in 1993 to become an independent firm. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the firm transitioned from venture capital to leveraged buyouts of mature businesses, becoming one of Europe's largest private equity players. In 2024, CVC became a public company via a listing on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange.
The firm operates a diversified investment platform spanning private equity, credit, secondaries, and infrastructure. It manages a significant global portfolio with investments in over 100 companies that employ more than 450,000 people. CVC is notable for raising large-scale capital, including a record-breaking 26 billion Euro buyout fund in 2023, and maintains a vast network of 25 offices across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
