Thoma Bravo is a leading American private equity and growth capital firm specializing in the enterprise software and technology-enabled services sectors.

Thoma Bravo is the successor to Golder Thoma & Co., established in 1980, which is credited with pioneering the consolidation or buy and build investment strategy. The firm underwent several name changes and splits, eventually becoming Thoma Bravo in 2008. In late 2020, the firm expanded its operations by moving its headquarters to Miami, Florida, while maintaining a significant presence in Chicago.

The firm is one of the largest private equity investors in the world, consistently ranking high on the PEI 300 list. It is particularly well-known for its aggressive acquisition strategy within the enterprise software, cybersecurity, and fintech markets. Thoma Bravo manages numerous funds, including some of the largest tech-focused buyout funds ever raised, such as its $24.3 billion 15th fund.

In addition to its flagship buyout funds, Thoma Bravo launched a private credit platform in 2017 to provide financing to software and technology companies. While the firm briefly explored cryptocurrency investments, including a notable stake in FTX, leadership indicated in 2024 that it would cease further activity in that sector following market volatility. The firm continues to expand its global reach, recently establishing a dedicated Europe fund.
