American Securities was established in 1947 by William Rosenwald, son of Sears CEO Julius Rosenwald, originally serving as a family office to manage the Rosenwald family wealth. In 1994, the firm transitioned into an institutionally backed fund management firm by launching its inaugural private equity fund under the leadership of Michael Fisch and Charles Klein. Since then, the firm has scaled significantly, growing from an initial $71 million investment fund to managing over $26 billion by 2023.

The firm focuses on partnering with U.S. companies that are market leaders in their respective fields, typically targeting businesses with annual revenues between $200 million and $2 billion. While historically rooted in the industrial and B2B services sectors, the firm maintains a diverse portfolio of current and past investments across various commercial industries. American Securities operates primarily out of its New York headquarters with an additional international presence in Shanghai.
