Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity (MLGPE) was the private equity investment arm of Merrill Lynch, specializing in leveraged buyouts and growth capital investments.
Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity (MLGPE) was founded in 1996 as the private equity investment arm of Merrill Lynch. The firm focused on leveraged buyout and growth capital investments across a wide range of industries and was recognized as one of the most active investment banking-sponsored merchant banking programs during the mid-2000s buyout boom. Since its inception, the firm invested more than $5 billion of capital across over 30 companies.
Following the acquisition of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America in 2009, MLGPE ceased making new investments. The unit was integrated with Bank of America Capital Investors to form BAML Capital Partners, which eventually led to the elimination of much of the original MLGPE team. In 2010, the successor team spun out from Bank of America to form the independent firm Ridgemont Equity Partners.
