Metalmark Capital

Metalmark Capital is a private equity firm that traces its roots back to 1985, originally operating as Morgan Stanley Capital Partners (MSCP). Between 1985 and 2004, the team invested over $7 billion through four funds under the Morgan Stanley umbrella. In 2004, the MSCP team spun out to become an independent firm named Metalmark Capital, joining a wave of private equity groups separating from major investment banks during that period.

In December 2007, Metalmark was acquired by Citigroup Alternative Investments as part of a series of strategic merchant banking and hedge fund acquisitions. The firm focuses primarily on leveraged buyouts and growth capital investments, targeting middle-market companies across various industries. Since its inception, the firm has raised approximately $8.5 billion across its legacy Morgan Stanley funds and subsequent independent fundraising.
