AAC Capital Partners
MediumFirm Overview
AAC Capital Partners was the private equity business unit of ABN AMRO Bank N.V., specializing in European mid-market investments.
AAC Capital Partners originated as the private equity division of the Dutch bank ABN AMRO. The firm historically focused on buyouts and growth investments in mid-market companies across various European sectors. In the years leading up to the 2008 financial crisis, the unit was a significant component of ABN AMRO's investment strategy, managing a diverse portfolio of technology and industrial interests.
Following the acquisition and subsequent breakup of ABN AMRO by a consortium of banks (RBS, Fortis, and Santander) in 2007, the private equity arm underwent a major transition. In 2008, RFS Holdings completed the sale of a large portfolio of AAC Capital Partners' private equity interests. This secondary market transaction involved 32 European companies and was sold to a consortium including Goldman Sachs, AlpInvest Partners, and the Canada Pension Plan for $1.5 billion. Prior to this, in 2006, the firm's technology investments were transferred to Favonius Ventures.
