Investcorp
MediumFirm Overview
Investcorp is a Bahraini alternative investment company that manages assets across private equity, real estate, credit, and other alternative strategies.
Founded in 1982 by Nemir Kirdar and other partners, Investcorp established itself through high-profile luxury acquisitions, most notably taking controlling stakes in Tiffany & Co. in 1984 and Gucci between 1989 and 1993. Based in Bahrain, the firm has grown into a global alternative investment provider with a presence in major financial hubs including New York, London, Riyadh, and Mumbai. Mubadala Investment Company is currently its largest external shareholder.
The firm underwent a leadership transition in 2015, shifting its focus toward raising institutional capital from global markets and diversifying its investment verticals. Today, the company operates across three primary business pillars: Private Equity, Real Assets (Real Estate and Infrastructure), and Credit. Its client base consists of institutional investors and private wealth clients, particularly from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
In recent years, Investcorp has aggressively expanded its geographic and thematic footprint. This includes pushing into the Chinese technology and food sectors, launching dedicated infrastructure entities like Investcorp Corsair, and participating in major US development projects such as the redevelopment of JFK International Airport. The firm has also embraced digital modernization, launching a blockchain-based GP-stakes fund and a dedicated wealth management app.
