Hg is a London-based private equity firm that specializes in technology buyouts and services investments within Europe and the United States.

Hg began as Mercury Private Equity, the private equity arm of Mercury Asset Management. Following Mercury Asset Management's acquisition by Merrill Lynch in 1997, the executives of the private equity unit negotiated their independence in December 2000. The firm was then established as HgCapital, a fully independent partnership owned by its partners and employees.

The firm focuses primarily on the technology and services sectors, particularly software and services businesses. Hg manages several fund families, including Mercury for smaller technology buyouts, Genesis for mid-market deals, and Saturn for large-cap investments. In recent years, the firm has expanded its reach by launching Hg Wealth to serve individual clients, family offices, and wealth advisers.

Hg is headquartered in London and maintains a significant international presence with offices in Munich, San Francisco, New York, and Singapore. As of 2024, it was ranked as one of the world's largest private equity firms by the PEI 300. The firm has a history of high-profile transactions, including the $12.2 billion buyout of Scandinavian software business Visma, which at the time was the largest software buyout in Europe.
