Founded in 2001 by Neal K. Aronson, Roark Capital Group is an Atlanta-based private equity firm that has grown to manage approximately $37 billion in assets. The firm is named after Howard Roark, the protagonist of Ayn Rand's novel The Fountainhead, intended to represent the firm's focus on independence and self-assurance. Roark primarily targets middle-market companies with a heavy emphasis on franchised business models and multi-location operations.

The firm is best known for its extensive portfolio of consumer-facing brands, particularly in the food and beverage industry. Through its affiliate Inspire Brands, Roark controls several major global restaurant chains including Arby's, Dunkin', and Buffalo Wild Wings. In 2023, the firm significantly expanded its footprint by reaching an agreement to acquire the sandwich giant Subway. In addition to food services, Roark maintains active investments in health and wellness, automotive services, and education sectors.
