Partners Group
MediumFirm Overview
Partners Group is a Swiss-based global private markets firm that invests in private equity, infrastructure, real estate, and debt.
Founded in 1996 by Urs Wietlisbach, Marcel Erni, and Alfred Gantner in Zug, Switzerland, Partners Group has grown into one of the world's most valuable publicly listed private markets firms. The firm reached an early milestone in 1998 by completing the largest recorded secondary transaction at the time, involving Royal Dutch Shell's U.S. pension fund. In 2006, the firm went public on the Swiss Exchange and later became a constituent of the Swiss Market Index in 2020.
The firm operates a global platform focusing on four main asset classes: private equity, private real estate, private infrastructure, and private debt. It is known for pioneering evergreen funds in private markets and launching the first European Long Term Investment Fund (ELTIF). Recently, Partners Group has expanded into private markets royalties and established significant strategic partnerships with major financial institutions like BlackRock and UBS to expand retail access to private markets.
Partners Group maintains a strong focus on thematic investing and business building, often taking controlling or significant minority stakes in companies across diverse sectors. Recent major activity includes significant investments in decarbonization technology, data centers, and consumer brands, alongside a stated goal by leadership to triple its assets under management to $450 billion by 2033.
