Blue Owl Capital

Blue Owl Capital was formed in May 2021 through the merger of Owl Rock Capital Group and Dyal Capital Partners via a special-purpose acquisition company, Altimar Acquisition Corp. The merger, valued at approximately $12.2 billion, brought together two major players in the alternative investment space: Owl Rock, which focused on middle-market private credit, and Dyal Capital, which specialized in taking minority stakes in other private equity and hedge fund managers. Since its inception, the firm has rapidly expanded through acquisitions, including the $950 million purchase of Oak Street Real Estate Capital in 2021 to bolster its real estate capabilities and the acquisition of Ascentium Group to facilitate growth in Asia. Blue Owl operates as a publicly traded company on the NYSE under the ticker OWL and has established a global presence with offices in major financial hubs. The firm's recent activities include significant joint ventures in the technology sector, such as a $27 billion data center project with Meta Platforms, and strategic moves to deepen its reach into private credit through the acquisition of Atalaya Capital Management.
