Lightyear Capital is an American private equity firm based in New York City that focuses on leveraged buyout and growth capital investments.

Lightyear Capital was founded in 2000 by Donald Marron, the former chairman and CEO of PaineWebber, following the merger of PaineWebber and UBS. Based in New York City, the firm specializes in financial services and related sectors, drawing on the deep industry expertise of its leadership team, many of whom have backgrounds in major financial institutions.

The firm has raised multiple flagship funds since its inception, including its first fund in 2002 which was heavily backed by UBS. Over the years, Lightyear has evolved into a prominent player in the wealth management and financial technology space, having raised over $3 billion across its first five funds and securing significant commitments for its sixth flagship fund. Following the death of Donald Marron in 2019, the firm has continued its operations under the leadership of Managing Partner Mark Vassallo.
