HPS Investment Partners

Founded in 2007 by Scott Kapnick, Scot French, and Michael Patterson, the firm was originally established as Highbridge Principal Strategies, the private equity and credit arm of Highbridge Capital Management within J.P. Morgan Asset Management. The firm grew significantly following the 2008 financial crisis, expanding its reach through strategic acquisitions and the launch of standalone credit funds. In 2016, the management team led a buyout from JPMorgan Chase, resulting in the firm's independence and rebranding as HPS Investment Partners.

In December 2024, BlackRock announced its acquisition of HPS Investment Partners for $12 billion, a deal that was completed in July 2025. Following the acquisition, HPS was integrated into a combined private credit unit within BlackRock, managing over $220 billion in client assets. The firm remains a dominant player in the private debt market, consistently ranked among the largest private debt investment companies globally based on fundraising volume.
