Crescent Capital Group
MediumFirm Overview
Crescent Capital Group is a global alternative investment firm specializing in below-investment-grade credit markets, including mezzanine debt, high-yield bonds, and senior loans.
Founded in 1991 by former Drexel Burnham Lambert investment bankers Mark Attanasio, Robert D. Beyer, and Jean-Marc Chapus, Crescent Capital Group began as an asset manager providing capital to middle-market companies and managing distressed portfolios. The firm was acquired by Trust Company of the West (TCW) in 1995, where it operated as the leveraged finance and mezzanine capital group for fifteen years. In 2010, the group spun off from TCW to re-establish itself as an independent stand-alone firm.
The firm focuses on below-investment-grade credit markets, offering products such as mezzanine capital, senior debt, high-yield bonds, and distressed securities. Since its inception, Crescent has made investments in over 190 companies and expanded its operations internationally with a significant presence in London. In January 2021, Sun Life Financial acquired a 51% majority stake in the company, though the firm maintains its head office in Los Angeles.
