Founded in 1991 by Leslie Brun, Hamilton Lane began as a private equity advisory firm focused on large public pension plans. Over the decades, the firm significantly expanded its capabilities, adding separately managed accounts and fund-of-funds management in 1998. The company underwent several ownership shifts involving investors like Credit Agricole and Cascade Investment before returning to a majority employee-owned structure in 2015 and eventually going public on the Nasdaq in 2017.
