Hamilton Lane

Hamilton Lane was founded in 1991 by Leslie Brun as a private equity advisory firm for large public pension plans. Over the following decades, the firm significantly expanded its offerings to include separately managed accounts, fund of funds, and direct investment services across various asset classes. The firm transitioned to being majority employee-owned in 2015 after buying back stakes from outside investors such as Credit Agricole and Cascade Investment.

The company went public on the Nasdaq in March 2017. In recent years, Hamilton Lane has focused on expanding its reach through strategic acquisitions, including Shott Capital Management, Real Asset Portfolio Management, and 361 Capital. The firm has also been an early adopter of blockchain technology in the private markets, partnering with Securitize to tokenize several of its funds.

Hamilton Lane currently operates 22 offices globally across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. While a significant portion of its business remains in investment advisory services, the firm also performs direct investments in private equity, private credit, and real assets. Its evergreen strategy has grown to approximately $17.1 billion in AUM as of late 2024.
