Founded in 1985 by Peter Peterson and Stephen Schwarzman, Blackstone began as a mergers and acquisitions advisory boutique before expanding into a global investment powerhouse. The firm finalized its first private equity fund shortly after the 1987 stock market crash and has since become one of the most prolific investors in leveraged buyouts and commercial real estate globally.
