UBS Capital

UBS Capital functioned as the primary private equity investment vehicle for UBS following the 1998 merger of Union Bank of Switzerland and Swiss Bank Corporation. The firm engaged in a variety of investment activities including buyouts and venture capital across global markets.

In the early 2000s, as part of a strategic shift to reduce the bank's exposure to direct principal investments, UBS began a process of spinning off or integrating its private equity units. In 2003, the bank rebranded all its business groups under the single UBS moniker to operate as a unified global entity.

More recently, UBS's private equity capabilities have been consolidated within the Real Estate and Private Markets (REPM) area of the Asset Management division. This move combined the bank's global real estate and infrastructure businesses with its private equity operations to offer systematic multi-asset strategies to institutional and private clients. Following the acquisition of Credit Suisse in 2023, UBS further expanded its global reach and alternative investment scale.
