Harbert Management Corporation

Founded in 1993 by Raymond J. Harbert, Harbert Management Corporation (HMC) is an investment management firm headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. The firm evolved from the predecessor Harbert Corporation, an international construction and energy company. HMC manages investment funds across seven alternative asset classes, primarily concentrated in real assets and private capital.

The firm maintains a global presence with domestic offices in cities such as Atlanta, Dallas, New York, and San Francisco, alongside international locations in London, Luxembourg, Paris, and Madrid. In addition to its core investment activities, HMC established the HERO Foundation in 1998 to provide financial assistance for those affected by natural disasters and medical hardships.

Historically, HMC was the majority owner of the hedge fund Harbinger Capital, providing the original funding for the firm and its funds. Today, HMC continues to operate a diverse portfolio including real estate, senior housing, and growth equity investments.
