Colony Capital

Founded in 1991 by Tom Barrack, the firm originally operated as Colony Capital, a private equity real estate firm. Historically, it was known for diverse investments in distressed assets, luxury hotels (such as Raffles and Fairmont), and high-profile assets like Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch and the Paris Saint-Germain football team. Following a tri-party merger in 2017 to become Colony NorthStar, the firm faced challenges and eventually shifted its focus entirely toward digital infrastructure.

In 2021, the firm rebranded as DigitalBridge, completing a massive strategic pivot by selling off its traditional real estate debt and equity assets to Fortress Investment Group. Today, the firm is a dominant player in the digital economy, managing a vast portfolio of towers, data centers, and fiber networks. In late 2025, it reached a definitive agreement to be acquired by SoftBank Group for approximately $4 billion to support SoftBank's artificial intelligence infrastructure goals.
