Chicago Growth Partners
MediumFirm Overview
Chicago Growth Partners is a private equity firm that specializes in leveraged buyouts and growth capital investments in middle-market companies.
Chicago Growth Partners (CGP) is an American private equity firm headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. While the firm was formally established in 2004, its origins date back to 1982 with the founding of William Blair Capital Partners, which served as the investment arm of William Blair & Company. The senior partners of William Blair Capital Partners completed a spin-out to form CGP to gain access to a broader base of institutional investors.
The firm focuses on middle-market companies, primarily across the education, healthcare, business services, and industrial growth sectors. Since its inception, the team and its predecessor raised approximately $1.8 billion across nine funds. CGP successfully raised two independent funds post-spinout, including a $500 million fund in 2008.
In May 2014, Chicago Growth Partners reportedly abandoned efforts to raise its third independent fund ($400 million to $500 million target). This decision marked a significant turning point for the firm's operations and fundraising trajectory.
