Baring Private Equity Asia

Founded in 1997 as a subsidiary of Baring Private Equity Partners, BPEA became an independent firm in 2000 following a management buyout led by Jean Salata. Despite early challenges during the Asian financial crisis, the firm established itself through successful early investments in companies like NetEase and Mphasis, eventually raising several multi-billion dollar funds.

The firm operated three primary investment strategies: Private Equity, Real Estate, and Credit, with the latter focusing specifically on the Indian market. In 2016, Affiliated Managers Group took a minority stake in the firm. BPEA significantly expanded its reach over two decades, culminating in the 2022 close of its eighth private equity fund at $11.2 billion.

In October 2022, BPEA was acquired by EQT AB for $7.5 billion. Following the acquisition, the firm served as EQT's Asian investment platform and was rebranded first as BPEA EQT and later as EQT Private Capital Asia in early 2024.
