Permira has agreed to sell its stake in BioCatch to Visa in an all-cash deal that values the fraud-intelligence company at approximately $2.4 billion. This marks the fifth strategic exit of 2026 for Permira funds.
Permira has reached an agreement to divest its interest in BioCatch to Visa in an all-cash transaction. The deal values the fraud-intelligence firm at approximately $2.4 billion. This transaction represents the fifth strategic exit for the Permira funds in 2026. The sale concludes a period of significant growth for BioCatch under Permira's ownership. Permira first invested in BioCatch in early 2023, acquiring a minority stake via its Ascent strategy, which focuses on mid-market growth companies within Permira's core sectors. Subsequently, Permira secured a majority interest in the company in 2024. This was done to facilitate BioCatch's global expansion initiatives and its product development endeavors. During the period of Permira's ownership, BioCatch expanded its clientele to over 350 financial institutions globally. The company also enhanced its fraud detection capabilities, introducing proactive measures such as behavior-based mule account detection. BioCatch launched BioCatch Trust, an initiative designed for real-time inter-bank intelligence sharing concerning financial crime. Additionally, it introduced DeviceIQ, a device identification product, and integrated AI detection features into its Connect 2.0 platform. The company experienced substantial growth during this period, with both revenue and gross profit increasing approximately threefold. This growth was primarily attributed to the acquisition of new customers and the expansion of services within its existing client base. By July 2026, BioCatch was analyzing over 19 billion digital sessions each month, spanning 1.8 billion devices. This acquisition by Visa signals a continued emphasis on enhancing cybersecurity and fraud prevention measures within the financial services sector. The substantial valuation underscores the perceived value of advanced behavioral biometrics and AI-driven fraud detection technologies in safeguarding digital transactions and financial assets.
