Blackstone’s private equity head Joseph Baratta to retire at end of year
Joseph Baratta, global head of Blackstone Private Equity Strategies and a member of Blackstone’s board of directors, is retiring at year end after nearly 30 years at the firm. His role will not be replaced.
The private equity sector is witnessing a leadership change as Joseph Baratta, Global Head of Private Equity Strategies and a board member at Blackstone, is retiring at the end of the year. This announcement was confirmed by Blackstone to PEI Group. His departure has been planned and communicated internally. A representative from Blackstone stated that the firm does not intend to appoint a direct replacement for Baratta's specific role, given that his retirement was long anticipated and a structure with other leaders running all the private equity strategies and funds is already in place. Baratta joined Blackstone in 1998. In 2001 he moved to London to help establish Blackstone's corporate private equity business in Europe. Since 2012, Baratta has served as the firm's global head of private equity and is based in New York. Prior to Blackstone, Baratta worked at Tinicum Incorporated and McCown De Leeuw & Company. He also worked at Morgan Stanley in its M&A department.
