HarbourVest Partners was founded in 1982 as Hancock Venture Partners, a subsidiary of John Hancock Insurance. The firm eventually became independent and established itself as a major global player in the private equity sector, headquartered in Boston with a significant international presence across offices in cities such as London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Bogota.
