EIG Global Energy Partners

Founded in 1982 as the Energy & Infrastructure Group within the TCW Group, EIG focused on providing mezzanine debt and private equity to energy projects and companies primarily in OECD countries. In January 2011, the group spun off from TCW to become an independent firm, moving its headquarters from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. to seek greater independence and operational flexibility.

The firm targets investments across the global energy value chain, including oil and gas, midstream, power, and renewable energy. EIG often engages in complex, negotiated private transactions with small- to mid-cap companies, while also participating in multi-billion dollar infrastructure deals with major global entities.

EIG has established significant global partnerships, including minority stake investments from the China Investment Corporation and Affiliated Managers Group. Despite some legal challenges regarding its separation from TCW and specific portfolio company bankruptcies, the firm remains a major player in infrastructure debt, ranked as one of the largest firms in the sector by Infrastructure Investor.
