Founded in 1997, Ares Management Corporation is a leading global alternative asset manager. The firm operates through four primary business units: Ares Credit Group, Ares Private Equity Group, Ares Real Estate Group, and Ares SSG. It established its footprint in the United States middle market and expanded significantly through the launch of Ares Capital Corporation in 2004 and an expansion into Europe in 2006.

The firm became a publicly traded entity on the New York Stock Exchange in 2014. It has grown through major acquisitions, including the $3.4 billion purchase of American Capital in 2017, the acquisition of Black Creek Group's U.S. real estate business in 2021, and the $3.7 billion acquisition of GLP Capital Partners' international business in 2024.
