Apollo targets up to $20bn of private credit investments in Mexico

Apollo Global Management is planning to deploy up to $20bn into private credit opportunities in Mexico, as the firm expands its lending business and seeks to capitalise on growing demand for private financing across the country’s infrastructure and corporate sectors.

## Apollo Aims for $20 Billion in Mexican Private Credit

Apollo Global Management is reportedly planning to deploy up to $20 billion into private credit opportunities within Mexico. This strategic move aims to expand the firm's lending business and leverage the increasing demand for private financing across Mexico's corporate and infrastructure sectors. The initiative is driven by the potential for faster execution and longer loan maturities than traditional banking options.

Sources close to the matter indicate that Apollo is currently in discussions regarding financing various infrastructure developments and other debt transactions. The firm's approach aligns with governmental efforts in Mexico to attract private capital for infrastructure investment, particularly under President Claudia Sheinbaum's economic agenda. Anticipated projects in areas like power generation, renewable energy, and electricity grid modernization are expected to generate substantial financing needs.

Infrastructure financing has been identified by Apollo as a key area for long-term growth. The firm has previously estimated a global investment requirement of up to $100 trillion over the coming decades for digital infrastructure, power generation, and energy transition projects. This projection highlights a significant opportunity for private capital providers to engage in such large-scale developments.

Apollo already has an established presence in Mexico. An affiliate of the firm recently participated in a $300 million private placement of senior secured notes for a trust managed by Mexico Infrastructure Partners, which funded power assets previously acquired from Iberdrola. Additionally, Apollo provided a $1 billion rescue financing package to Aeromexico during the pandemic and has explored potential acquisitions in the country's financial services sector.

This latest initiative by Apollo signifies a broader strategy to expand private credit operations beyond its traditional markets of North America and Europe, focusing instead on emerging markets with higher growth potential. Mexico, in particular, has been identified for opportunities to provide lending to both investment-grade corporations and small to medium-sized enterprises.

The activity in Mexico's private credit sector reached 60 transactions worth approximately $1.1 billion in 2025, following 55 deals valued at $2.1 billion in 2024.
